Phoenix Reach

Phoenix Reach won both the 2004 Hong Kong Vase and the 2005 Dubai Sheema Classic, both Group One races over 2400 metres.

In the 2004 Hong Kong Vase Phoenix Reach outstayed Sights On Gold as overseas runners dominated the finish. A winner of the Canadian International (Gr.1 2400m) in 2003 and sixth in the 2004 Japan Cup, Phoenix Reach surprisingly started unfancied at 26/1.

In very a slowly run race where Beethoven, Warrsan and Super Kid made the running, Phoenix Reach settled in fifth and was always travelling well. Andrew Balding's four-year-old fended off the Godolphin runner Sights On Gold by half a length with the 2003 winner Vallee Enchantee a length and a half further back.

In the 2005 Dubai Sheema Classic Phoenix Reach, a 5-1 chance with UK bookmakers, won by two lengths from Godolphin`s Razkalla with Collier Hill in third. The quality field included Cherry Mix and Powerscourt.
