Marcos Lemos

Captain Marcos Lemos was a Greek shipping magnate and a major racehorse owner in England the 1970s and 1980s.

The best horse to carry his colours was probably the filly Pebbles who won the 1984 1,000 Guineas before being bought by Sheikh Mohammed and going on to land the Champion Stakes and Breeders'' Cup Turf.

Other top-class performers he owned included St Leger winner Julio Mariner, Petingo, Cavo Doro (second in the Epsom Derby), Averof and Supreme Leader.

He died at his home outside Athens at the age of 81 in April 2009.
