Hong Kong Vase 2005

The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase 2005 was won by the Ed Dunlop trained Ouija Board (Cape Cross out of Selection Board).

Ouija Board was voted Europe`s Horse of the year in 2004 following wins in the English and Irish Oaks and the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare.

A splint injury and a 29.5 length defeat in York in June 2005 meant a slower start to the season.

Ouija Board then returned to form with a second in the Breeders'' Cup Filly and Mare behind Intercontinental and fifth in the Japan Cup behind Alkaased.

In the Hong Kong Vase, Ouija Board, ridden by Kieren Fallon, won decisively by two and three-quarter lengths from Six Sense from Japan with Hong Kong''s Best Gift in third. Favourite Westerner was fifth.

Ouija Board has now won Group One races on three continents and, following Makybe Diva''s retirement, she is probably the best mare in the World.
