New Zealand born mare Ethereal won both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups in 2001, becoming the eleventh horse to win both races.

The four year old won the Queensland Oaks and then won the Caulfield Cup in a photofinish.

She went on to win the Melbourne Cup more easily from Godolphin`s Give The Slip.

Ethereal was the first mare to win both races since Lets Elope in 1991.

She was also the first Melbourne Cup winner to be trained by a woman.
