Designs On Rome

“Hyperion” (Robert Bishop) witnessed a great race at Sha Tin where the John Moore trained Designs On Rome beat stablemate and defending champion Military Attack to seal a thrilling victory in the 2014 G1 Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup.

In battling to a neck triumph under Tommy Berry, Designs On Rome became only the third HKG1 BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) winner to achieve success in the same season’s APQEII Cup, following Vengeance Of Rain (2005) and Ambitious Dragon (2011).

The top-class field of 10 featured South Africas G1 Dubai Duty Free runner-up Vercingetorix and Japanese star Epiphaneia. Vercingetorix had an unfortunate run and finished third, two lengths behind, while the Katsuhiko Sumii trained Epiphaneia was another two lengths away in fourth. BMW Hong Kong Derby third Dibayani was fifth.

"It will be very exciting to see Designs Ön Rome travel to race overseas next term", added Robert Bishop
