Mossfun wins 2014 Golden Slipper and makes history

Mossfun became the first filly ever to win the Silver Slipper – Golden Slipper double.

On a wet track at Rosehill, Mossfun ($5.40), trained by John Hawkes and ridden by James McDonald, was a fine winner over favourite Earthquake ($2.60) and Bring Me The Maid ($9).

This was Mossfun's fourth win in five starts and was John Hawkes' third Golden Slipper win after Guineas in 1997 and Forensics in 2007.

This was the second fillies trifecta in Golden Slipper history after Polar Success beat Victory Vein and Hansa in 2003. Amazingly fillies filled the first seven places home.

Previously Mossfun had won the Silver Slipper (1100 metres) at Rosehill with an impressive 4 length win on heavy going beating a good field including Magic Millions winner Unencumbered (fifth) and Risen From Doubt (third) and then suffered her one defeat to Earthquake..

Fillies have now won 11 of the last 16 Silver Slippers but no filly has ever won the Silver Slipper – Golden Slipper double before.

"Hyperion" (Robert Bishop) and "Carbine" (Andrew Beattie) were there to see History made.
