Singapore International Airlines Cup 2012 - prerace article

“Hyperion” (Robert Bishop) is in Singapore for Sunday’s Krisflyer International Sprint and Singapore International Airlines Cup to be run at Kranji Racecourse.

Interviewed in the Media Room, Hyperion commented “It was raining this morning and on and off during the day so we will need to see if this continues over the next 72 hours as some of the runners like Chinchon (SIA Cup) and Invisible Ash (Krisflyer) like fast going whereas the rain may help Thumbs Up (SIA Cup).”

“In the Krisflyer International Sprint I favour Krypton Factor to follow up his win in the Golden Shaheen in Dubai in March. He has had time to recover and, although his training was slightly interrupted with a pulled shoe yesterday, he will train on the polytrack tomorrow and I think its his year. I think longshot Captain Obvious may pip Perfect Pins for second”.

Hyperion continued "In the Singapore International Airlines Cup I expect to see Caspar Fownes’ Thumbs Up give a good account. Thumbs Up was second a few weeks ago in Hong Kong behind Rulership in the QEII Cup and the seven year old seems focussed and competitive again. 2011 Hong Kong Cup winner California Memory is a favourite of mine but his recent form in Dubai and Hong Kong is erratic. Zazou may start favourite but seems more of a journeyman type to me, as is Chinchon, and I cannot see signs that Zazou or Chinchon will perform better than in the past. "

"Jockey Mickael Barzalona has touch of the Lester Piggott genius about him and may be able to conjure City Style to something special and he is a danger. My current thinking is Thumbs Up to win with California Memory to make it a 1,2 for Hong Kong with City Style and Zazou battling for third place."
