Glint of Gold

A son of Mill Reef, trained by Ian Balding and owned by Paul Mellon.

As a three year old in 1981, Glint of Gold won the Derby Italiano in Rome.

He then finished runner up to Shergar in the 1981 English Derby, beaten ten lengths, when 13-1 fourth favourite.

After the Derby, the well-travelled Glint of Gold became the first British trained winner of the Grand Prix de Paris since 1921, following which he impressively won the Great Voltigeur by three lengths.

Glint of Gold then finished runner-up in the St Leger won by surprise 28-1 winner Cut Above; Shergar was fourth.

As a four year old Glint of Gold won three of his seven races, the John Porter Stakes, the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud and the Grosser Preis von Baden.

Glint of Gold has a GR rating of 129.
